A sawing match far ■ the championship of Tasmania and £IOO a side took place at Cygnet on July Bth. Murray Bros, were the holders, and Pritchard and Palmer the challengers. The log chosen was an 18in one. and both logs had 'been turned in a lathe to get .them exact. "‘Excitement ran high, aa both pairs took up their saws, and kir a short time, all being ready, “Go” was given, and away thev want. In 18seo Palmer and' Pritchard were through, the winners thus cutting one inch of wood to the second. It was a splendid exhibition .- Sure and certain. WADE’S WORM FIGS. Children like them. .The secretary of the Wairarapa Rugby Onion (Mr E\ McKenzie) has forwarded a cheque for £SOO to the New Zealand Rugby Union, being the first payment of the takings at the Springboks-Waira-rapa match at Solway.
