GAS WORKERS’ CONDITIONS
TERMS OF NEW AGREEMENT. HOURS AND RATE OF PAY. The agreement arrived at recently, between the Wellington Gasworks Employees' Union and the Gas Company in regard, to wages and conditions of employment i* to date u from May Ist fast, and consequently the wages will be retrospective by some weeks. Stok©w, nil e-jumpers, and pitchpan men are to bo paid 17s 3d per shift; fire-cleanerß, 15a 9d; and ooal and coke workers, 14s Bd. The week's work for retort-house men is to consist of not mote than six shifts of eight hours. If a stoker fail® to go on the company is to provide either another stoker, or divide the employed man's wages amongst the re* ma.ming three men of the gang. ‘Workers who axe obliged' to work on day off are to receive double rates. A day off each week is to be allowed all retort worker*. Workers in other departments than the retort house are to work 44 'hours per week, at the rates of wages fixed' bv the Arbitration Court for the trades in which they are engaged. Labourers at the Miramar yard* are to receive 4s per week in advance of the rate prescribed in the general labourers' award; stove assemblers aTe to receive lid P®r hour in excess of the award rate: and: drivers of commercial motor vehicles are to be paid JS4 7s 8d per week of 44 heurs. Office cleaners are to receive «£3 18s per 48-hour week. In regard to, holidays, , it has been agreed that fire cleaners shall be allowed seven days' annual "holiday, and other retort house worker* twelve days. The usual overtime rate is to operate. The bonuses granted by the. Arbitration Court are to be applied in. addition to the prescribed rates of pay. The agreement has been effected .in pursuance of the provisions of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act
