The committee of t-lio Amateur Rowing Association, which was in conference with .representative® of the Universities, the Henley regatta authorities, and provincial rowers, passedresolution that organised international athletic competitions like the Olympiads, entailing vast expenditure, are entirely contrary to the true spirit of amateur sport, and will endanger ineJbead of fostering friendly relations Wtutth- international contestants' owting to the exaggerated importance attached to the victories therein.
The conference decided not to support the British Olympic Association, offering instead itself to arrange occasional friendly contests open to British and foreign amateurs. The conference also refused to alter th-d present definition of amateur.
