YESTERDAY’S SITTING. POLICE CASES'. Mr F. KL. Hunt, S.M., was on the Bench at yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, when police cases were dealt with. Two first-offenders for drunkenness escaped with light fines. John Joseph Kelly, who made his second appearance for drunkenness, was fined 10s and costs. Charles Norris and Herbert R. Crawford, two lads of sixteen and seventeen years respectively, appeared, charged with the theft of property of a total yalue of £ll 2s 6d) from the dwelling of William Little on Juno 28th. Chief-Detective Ward stated that one of the lads, Norris, was committed to Wellington for sentence on charges of breaking and entering at Auckland. They had arrived from the northern city only the evening before, and as he had eleven charges of breaking and entering against the two lads he would not he ready to proceed until Wednesday next. Accordingly he asked a remand to that date. Mr W. E. Leicester, who appeared for Norris, asked for bail, but the magistrate refused to grant it. He remanded the boys to July 27th, and made an order that they be kept apart from the other prisoners. CIVIL CASES. Judgment in default was entered in the following undefended civil cases by Mr E'. Wiliam Jackson was ordered to pay £l4 4s 9d to Smith and Smith, LtcJ., forthwith, in default fifteen days* imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as £5 per month is paid. TENEMENT OASES. William Pearce was granted an order for possession of the tenement at present occupied by Julia Raffertey. Judgment was given for £6 for rent and £2 12® 6d costs. BROKEN BY-LAWS. Offenders against the city by-laws were dealt with by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday. ’ Ernest P. Buoholz, convicted of passings a stationary, street car, was fined £1 and costs. _A. E. Mabin, for failing to show lights on his motor, was fined 5s and costs. For allowing their chimneys to catch fire, O. Latham and F. Brough were each fined 5s and coats. Richard Clifton, aghinsb whom three charges of excessive speed were preferred, was fined a total of 3Cte and 33s oasts. On further 'Counts of reckless driving and leaving his car unlighted he was convicted and discharged. For exceeding the speed-limit in Cuba street, - Walter Oobb was fined £1 and costs 7s, and for failing to stop when required a further 10s and costs. Frederick Payne, who drove on the wrong side of a street, was fined 10s and ooets 19s. Her failure to stop when required led to Doris Sullivan also being fined 10s and costs 7s. For being the owners of unregistered dogs, Walter Bowater and H. Jeyes were fined 10s and ooets, while H. Adams, R. Gamble, Gladys Murray’, S. Paget, R. Thorburn, John Tofts, and 33. Vile were convicted and ordered to pay costs, 7s. J. M. Kerby, who passed a stationary tramcar, was fined £1 and costs. For failing to take out a license for his express, jJ. J. Moore was fined £1 and costs. *1 - _E_. Radcliffe. who was convicted of driving a car without a license, was ordered to pay ccets, 7s.
