THE COMPETITIONS

RECORD ENTRIES ANTICIPATED. Yesterday was the final day for the receipt of entries for the Wellington Competitions Society’s annual competitions, which open next month. The secretary (Mr G. Jenner) lia® been busily engaged for nearly a week receiving and classifying entries, and the actual number will not be known for several days. It was ascertained, however, that a larger number of competitors would be taking part from districts outside of Wellington than in previous years, and there was evidence that the aggregate number 'of entries would constitute a record. The largest number yet received was 1835, nnd it- was fully expected yesterday that- -this year the total would exceed 2000. Each class would be well represented, and the talent which will be presented should make the competitions keen and at- the same time provide high-class entertainment.
