MAGISTRATE’S COURT

SATURDAY’S CASES. Police oases were dealt with by Mr F. K. Hunt, 531., at the Magistrate’s pCourt on Saturday. Seven, first offenders for drunkenness were dealt with in the usual lenientmanner. William Simpson, charged with the theft on a 71b tin of jam, of a value of 5® 3d, from the Union Steam Ship Company, was remanded until to-day. Bail'was fixed at £lO. Walter D. Fisher, on a charge of theft of a "bicycle. valued at £4 from SOrne^person unknown, was remanded until to-day. On the application of counsel, Mr A. ,B. Sievwright, bail was allowed in the sum of £2O. A young man named Stanley J. Collins, who was convicted on a charge of theft on May 27th last, was brought up before the Magistrate for a breach of the terms of his probation. Mr T. P. Mills, probation officer, stated that Collins had been travelling for the. Medallion Art Company, and had defrauded the company on several occasions. The magistrate decided to commit the youth to the Borstal Jnstitution, Invercargill, for twelve .'months’ treatment-.
