A statement showing the expenditure on the road during the year was furnished by the city engineer (Mr W. H. Morton) as follows: Labour, £1457 9s; -metal, £BBS 16s 6d; screenings, £299 8s: binding 'material, £286 17s 6d; miscellaneous work, £3O 11s 9d; rolling, £129 4s sd. Commenting on his estimate for the vear 1921-22 Mr Morfon said that the number of culverts under the road were blocked with detritus from the hills, and the removal of such material was costly. The traffic over the road was growing yearly. It had been endeavoured to keep the expenditure as low ajjj possible, at, the same time keeping the road in a serviceable condition, particularly as regarded its wearing surfaces. Since the previous estimate had been made, considerable increases .in the 'cost of labour had been necessitated. The reports were adopted, after discussion.
