MOTOR “ WRECKING ”
SECONDHAND DEALER’S LICENSE. A man named George W? Lawrencfi appeared before Mr F. K. Hunt, S-M-, yesterday charged with carrying on business as a secondhand dealer without a license,. Chief-Detective Ward stated that defendant .carried on business in Harris street with a firm named the New Zealand Motor Wrecking Company. He bought secondhand motors and sold the usable parts. Some time ago in consequence of complaints to the police, he had been asked to take out a license, but he appeared to consider this unnecessary. The chief-detective pointed out the importance of the Act being observed, as under it dealers were compelled to keep books which the police inspected. Mr W; E. Leicester, _who appeared for the defendant, submitted that the case was one for a small fine. Defendant had carried on a business which involved a good dpnl qf exchange and had now applied for a license. The magistrate decided to impose a fine of 10s and costs. >
