TEACHERS AS OFFICERS
; SHOULD THEY BE PAID ? Mr F'. Maityn Renner supported the following remit at the meeting of the Secondary School Assistants’ Associatioi last night:—“That this meeting rescind the motion passed at the last annual meeting, viz., that teachers employed as officers in cadet corps outside school hours be paid for their services.’’ The cadet training, he said, was as importer' as a training at Cambridge. Good healthy outdoor aotivity was recognised as one of the most important factors in keeping tho mind clear to co-operate with the body. If defence training was absolutely essential to the well-being arm future of New Zealand, and if tho senior cadet training given in secondary school, was a vital of such training, tiu cadet work was just as important a training in games. "Finally.’’ said Mr Renner, “may I fy permitted to say that when I discussed this matter with Colonel Slceman he was most emphatic in hie opposition, ard pointed out that if the Defence Department decided to give payment to the commissioned officers in secondary schools it would logically have to give it to .-’i other senior cadet and territorial officers." The resolution was unanimously passed.
