HIGH PROTECTIVE TARIFFS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. WASHINGTON, May 9. The United Press Agency learns that the Republican record far high protective tariffs will be broken by the new permanent Tariff Bill, now in committee. The schedules generally average above the Payne-Alrich Bill of 1909. According to the present draft wool will be taxed as follows:—Greasy, 11 cents per pound; washed, 22 cents ; scoured, 33 cents. Sugar will be taxed 2 cents per pound. Tariffs on agrioul tural products, however, will be slightly lower in the emergency tariff.
