POSITION INTENSIFIED REFUSAL TO HANDLE SEABORNE COAL. EXTREMISTS ENCOURAGED. Dy Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association LONDON. May 9. The ‘‘Daily Chronicle” states that there is a grave development in the eoal crisis, due to the threat by tho dockers and railwaymen to refuse to handle any seaborne coal. These supplies aro not necessarily from foreign sources. As a matter of fact, tho trouble commenced yesterday, -with a Welsh cargo in Glasgow harbour. It remains to be seen whether the Transport Workers’ executive, when it meets to-dav, will endorse the sectional action of these -workers. The railwaymen have been informed that their refusal is contrary to the instructions of their own executive, hu* the dockers and railwaymen assert that they cannot discriminate between commercial coal and coal for public utility .service. Jt is suggested that the extremists have been encouraged by the outbreak among the Reservists at Aldershot. FLOODED COt LIERIEB A DISQUIETING STATEMENT. LONDON, May '9. Mr W. C. Bridgeman (Secretary for Mines) stated in the House of Commons that 46 collieries have been flooded. They employed 14,656 men.
