RETIRING MAYOR AND MAYORESS.

PRESENTATIONS FROM STAFF. The retiring Mayor and. Mayoress (Mr and Mrs J.- P. Luke) were yesterday afternoon the recipients of presentations from the assembled staffs of. the corporation offices. Mr Luke was presented with a handsome engraver gold'watch, and Mrs Luke with a beautiful .pendant. The town clerk (Mr J. R. Palmer) said that the staff was gathered together to hid a formal T ‘au revoir” to Mr and Mrs Luke, who were retiring from office after eight years of strenuous and successful public work. He briefly reviewed the difficulties they had had to contend with, and asked them to accept the gifts as mementoes of the happy and pleasant years during which they had been associated in municipal work. He hoped *uey would both live long to wear them. Tributes to the recipients were also paid by the city engineer (Mr W. H. Morton), the caty solicitor (Mr J. O’Shea), the city valuer (Mr James Ames), and the city treasurer (Mr Charles Collins). Mr and Mrs Luke feelingly return ed thanks, addressing the gathering at length. . .
