INCREASE IN DEPOSITS. During the March quarter of 1921, according to a statement furnished to the Postmaster-General (the Hori. J. G. Coates), Savings-Bank deposits amounted to £893, 358 and withdrawals to £501,715, giving an excess of deposits of £391,643. In the preceding quarter the excess of deposits was £IOO,OOO. The increase in the excess of deposits is attributed to the increase which took effect from January Ist, 1921, in the maximum amount of a deposit upon which, interest is payable. The total amount at the credit of depositors on March 31st, 1921, was £42,953,965, compared witlj, £19,048,028 on March 31st, 1914, an increase of £23,905,937.
