His Honour Mr Justice Reed will preside over the sittings of the Supreme Court, which commence at New Plymouth this morning. Mr L. M. Inglis, of Timarn, has been admitted as a soboito* of the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Herdman on the motion of Mr J. H. Ingjis. Mr and Mrs G. Stewart, of Nelson, who have been touring the North Island, passed through Wellington on their way home. The Hon. J. G. Coates (Minister for Public Works) arrived at Napier lastnight. He leaves again this morning on a tour’ of the east ooasfc district. Mr F. J. Gunn (officer-in-charge, Coal Control Department), who has been on a holiday visit to Australia, returned by the Moeraki last night. Mr H. Dysen, general secretary of the Storemen’s Federation, who has been visiting Blenheim on Arbitration Court business, has returned to Wellington. Mr R. P. Greville, North Auckland Crown Lands’ Commissioner, who has been attendingthe conference of commissioners in ’Wellington has returned to Auckland. Mr R. W. Dalton, His Majesty's Trade Oommisioner, left Wellington for Auckland. Mr Dalton will be-ab-sent from Wellington for two or three weeks. Mr A. Cerutty, Dunedin manager for the Huddart-Parker Company, has been promoted to the Auckland brfinch, states a Prerfs Assoriation telegram. Mr George Hamilton Wallace was last week admitted a solicitor of the Supremo Court, Auckland, by Mr Justice Adams, on the motion of Mr J. Kalman. The death of an old member (Mr John Allen) was referred to at the meeting of the Auckland Farmeis’ Union, a vote of condolence being passed to his family. . Mir W. P. BOon, who bus been returned, unopposed, as Mayor of Whakatane was, some years ago, a prominent forward hi the Stratford senior Rugby football team. The Rev. N. D. L. Coates (Minister for Public Works aad Native Affairs) left Wellington yesterday on a visit to the East Coast and the Ufewerm country. He will return to Wellington in about three weeks time. Mr T. O. Bishop, technical adviser to the New Zealand Coal Mine-owners’ Association, left for the south last night on a visit of inspection to the mines in the South Island. Ho will he absent from Wellington for about a week. Mr W. Baker, who has been connected with the N-Z. Loan and Mercantile Company for some time, has decided to start business. Mr r. O’Rourke has been appointed to fill the vacancy canned by the retirement of Mr Baker. —Otaki correspondent. The. death has occurred at the Otaki Hospital of Mr James Oavanagh, for years a well-known resident of Paekakariki. Deceased, who was about 65 years of age, was in the employ of the Railway Company for several years. Mr P. D. Leslie, the New Zealand manager of the Colonial Mutual Life Office, leaves by the Moeraki on Thursday to join the Euripides at Sydney, for Capetown. Mr Leslie has been appointed the society’s manager for South Africa. Mr R- Grant, supervisor of Manual and Technical in the Canterbury Education District, will represent the Canterbury board at a conference of directors of technical schools and supervisors of manual training classes that will be held in Wellington on May 11th and the following days. Mr A. H. Ellicott, J.P., of Hamilton, Waikato, arrived in England on a visit to his parents after an absence of twelve years. His father died at the very tune that he reached Liverpool. As a county oonncillorho is interested in up-to-date machinery for road construction.
