PAYMENT OF LAND TAX

A FARMER'S ANXIETY. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P. for Hurumui, stated in Parliament yesterday afternoon, that he had received a letter from a farmer requesting him to ask the Finance Minister whether anything could be done to assist farmers, whose produce had fallen so seriously in value,* iu> regard to the payment of their land tax, either by postponement, by providing for payment in instalments, or in some other way. Mr Massey, in reply, said that the hon. member’s correspondent was looking a long way ahead, as the land tax was not due until next November. He thought by that time matters would have improved, and that prices would be somewhat better than at present. But if there was any hardship he would be glad to take if into consideration, and do what ho coul<i to obviate any trouble.
