PURCHASES TO DATE. TOTAL OF .£156,539,778 IN SIX YEARS--52 MILLIONS FOR MEAT. Some very large purchases of New Zealand meat, cheese, butter, etc., have been made by the Department of Imperial Government Supplies, the total to date being over 156^. millions. TOTAL PAYMENTS.

Tho largest payments made were for meat and wool. In all 3,430,452 quarters of beef were purchased, also 17,218,593 carcases of mutton, and. 17,641,332 carcases of lamb, while t&e meat in store at the end of last month for which no space had been allocated, totalled 302,709. MEAT. The total shipments of meat wero as under

i .BUTTER. From 1917 to 1920-21 tho total number of boxes of butter purchased was 2,690,103. Of this amount 2.216,003 -boxes arrived at their destination, 49,847 boxes were lost (in 1917-18) in transit, 204,222 boxes are en route to their destination, 220,031 boxee are’on board steamers now. loading, while the quantity of butter in store awaiting shipment on. account of the Imperial Government on March 7th of this year was 317,689 boxes. The payments for butter totalled -£14,257,555 as under :—Season 1917-1918, payments «£2,829.032; 1918-1919, .£2,928,685; 1919-1920, ,£2,420,297; 1920-1921. .£6,079,541. CHEESE. A total of 3,137,769 crates of cheese were purchased, of which 62,846 were lost in transit. The biggest purchase was made in crates. Slij>o wool—Total payments X 2,013,123 (for wool purchased for valuation in tho United Kingdom): while X 5.479.552 was paid for slrpo wool purchased under New Zealand valuations.
