TENDERS ACCEPTED. LARGE CONTRACT FOR STEEL RAILS. On the recommendation of the Public Works Tender Board, Cabinet has accepted a tender for the supply of a large quantity of steel rails and fishplates fo- railway purposes. The quantity to be supplied is If),003 tons of steel rails together with the necessary fish-plates, and the successful tenderer is John Duthie and Co., Ltd., of Wellington. The contract price for the rails is £l7 0s 5d per ton, and for the fish-plates £2l Is 8d per ton ; the full amount of the contract being £176,05f 8s 4d. * GARAGE AT ADDINGTON. In order to house the motor-cars and wagons at Addington, belonging to the Government, tenders were mvitied for the construction of a garage, and that of George White, of Linwood, Christchurch, has been accepted, the price being £2261. ELECTRIC TRANSFORMERS. In connection with the Lake ridge hydro-electric power Cabinet has approved of the accepting of the following tenders for the supply of transformers : National Electric Company, four 25C K.B.A- transformers, £3127: and four 120 K.B.A. transformers, £2046. Tne National Electric is an American Company, and the conversion rate pf the £ sterling into American coinage has been fixed at 4 dollars. Tolley and Sons (Wellington) om hundred K.B.A. three-phase transformers, £930. GIRDER PLATES. The tender of John Duthie and Cp., Ltd., has been accepted for a supply of girder plates, the price for thr quantity required being £l3B 10s 2d.
