Tlie person who would rob an ambulance equipment box has surely reached pretty nearly the lowest depth in morals (states tlie Timaru “Herald”). St. John Ambulance has for years past had such boxes located in different parts of the borough in readiness for use in the event of accident; but lately it lias been found that this equipment is being stolen, and on this account the association has* decided to cease keeping it except at the wharf and the bay, and it there be any further thefts these two equipment stations will also be closed.
There is oh© outstanding feature in the wholesale fruit market at Auckland—a of tomatoes, the sea-son haring produced just double last year’s crop. The result is that cases of this fruit -are selling in Auckland at prices ranging from Is 6d to 2s 6d each. It would a-ppear as if the crop ripened at the one time throughout the whole province. Consignments are coming to hand from outside districts such as Whangarei, Cambridge, Hamilton, and Dargaville, where in past years the fruit was distributed. All other lines of fruit are bringing from fair to good prices.
