QUESTIONS DISCUSSED AT AUCKLAND CONFERENCEre it * esoor a-riox. AUCKLAND, February 10. At the Industrial Conference papers dealing with the forward movement were read by Mr C. A.Wilson and Sir J. Findlay (Auckland). The former advocated a publicity scheme on American lines, and Mr Findlay advocated insurance against, unemployment, emfilayers and workers contributing to a und subsidised by the Government; also a superannuation fund. “That efforts be mad* to increase the seconder,* industries, commensurate with the commercial position of the country,” was the text of a paper by Mr G. White (Canterbury). Ho pointed out that in 1917 the imports of wearing apparel, boots, iron and steel, leather, hosiery, and other lines totalled £5,732.-590. Thus New Zon - la ml was giving other countries £2.806.293. this being the difference between the manufacturers’ price and the imported price. The title of the organisation was altered to that of “New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association, Incorporated. ’»
