JUST IN TIME
NEW ZEALANDER AND BANK DRAFT. Mr A. G. King, who recently arrived in London from Auckland, had forwarded a draft in favour of himself for £6O to the London branch of the Bank of New Zeeland. One day last week he called for the cash, but reported that the duplicate of the draft had been stolen from him. Two hours later a man entered the bank with the duplicate And represented himself as Mr King. On being asked to endorse the document ho signed the name Long. Subsequently he stated that he was a relative of Mr King. The sequel : i-.e affair was that Frederick Vo-p - u-man, aged 21, who was ohvi-.-.p •; league with >ther criic : :i->!‘ . at. the Central Ur!;.-,' ( -i.i. ".'1 with attempting t.-iir: .• under false pretences. The defeod-.it: asserted that -he document was given to him by a man on Blaokfriar* Bridge, who asj<ed him to cash it. The magistrate sentenced him to she months’ imprisonment in the second division.
