INFECTIOUS DISEASES

WELLINGTON DISTRICT. INFANTILE PARALYSIS CASES. The following cases of infectious disease were notified in the Wellington health district daring the week ended January 31st. The. corresponding figures for the previous week are given m parentheses:— Scarlet fever, 3 (8) —Wellington T. Nelson 2. Diphtheria, 7 (6) —Palmerston North 2, Wairarapa 2, Picton 1, Nelson 3. Tuberculosis, 6 (4) —Wellington 5, Wairarapa 1. Poliomyelitis, infantile paralysis, 4 —Palmerston North 1, Wellington Puerperal septicaemia, 1 (0) —Wellington. Pneumonia, 3 (0) —Wellington. Varicella, 3 (1)-—Wellington. Ophthalmia neonatorium, 2 (0) —Palmerston North 2, Wellington 1. Dr I. E. Faris (district health officer), interviewed by a “Times” representative, said -that of the four cases of infantile paralysis, one was an old case undiagnosed, referred to last week. It was on obscure type of illness for three or four weeks. Of the other three, one was in HzJcombe, and the other two in Wellington city-—one in Lyall Bay and the otnei in Wellington South. All the cases had been removed to hospital, and due precautions taken with regard to contacts.
