LUBOWSKI’S RECITAL

AN ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. Daniel LubOwski, the Russian boy violinist, who was accorded shell a Leartv reception at the Town Hall Concert Chamber on. Wednesday evening last, '.as even, more enthusiastically welcomed on Saturday night, when he" gave his second recital. ’ His programme was finite, as exacting as that which he presented, on his first appearance, the works selected ranging in point of difficulty from Paganini’s D Major Concerto _tp the ..wellknown ‘‘lntermezzo” from the opera “Cavalleria Rusticana,” which was included in deference to popular taste. The lad whs in splendid form, and all things considered even bettered his previous performance. The concert certainly merited, a larger audience. Master Lubowski’s technique is astonishing, and has been developed to a surprising degree during the seven years lie has devoted to the instrument. If it were 'fair to closely criticise so youthful on artist one might be inclined to comment upon the boy’s temperamental ability, but most of those Who heard his recital will readily excuse any shortcoming in a quality which can only bo expected to develop with the. advance to maturity, As far as Jiis ability as an executant goes, Master. Lubowski may ' lay just claim to virtuosity. Tlxe most enjoyable, and most difficult item rendered was the Wilhelm; arrangement of Paganini’s Concerto. The stupendous fingerbeard difficulties of this composition were overcome with surprising skill by the performer, and tlic concluding cadenza was also excellently played. The beautiful theme upon which Wieniawski’s ‘‘Souvenir de Moscow” is founded was played with much sympathy and good tone, and the difficult Variations were treated with facility. Another erfjoyablc item, involving careful manipulation of the bow, was Bazzini’s “Rondo Of the Goblin,” in which the, springing staccato is called into play. Other items —all intelligently and carefully rendered —were • Savasate’s “Spanish Dances;” Kreisler’s “Caprice Viennois. - ” “Gipsy Dance" (Nachez), “Meditation” from the opera “Thais” (Massenet), ami Drdla’s "Serenade.” The Lubowski family orchestra was, warmly -received in a number ef items, including “Poet anjd Peasant” overture. Miss AnnaYvubovski, the gifted juvenile pianist, played her brother’s accomnanlments with taste, and also delighted the audience with-one of Chopin’s raises. Little Joseph Lubowski played a portion of "Light Cavalry” overture as a zyl-ophonC solo. Mrs rot.lf.ston .
