ITALY’S TROUBLES

SOCIALISTS -DECLARE STRIKE IN FLORENCE. SERIOUS CLASHES FOLLOW. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 30, 5.5 p.m.) ROME, January 28. The Socialist® have declared a general strike in Florence, interrupting the railways between Rome and northern Italy. Serious brushes • occurred at Florence between Socialists and antiSocialists. The latter, armed with revolvers, traversed the city in motor-cars. A E itched battle occurred in the street, ut ceased upon tho arrival of carabineers and royal guards in armoured cars. Several were’ wounded. A train which was abandoned at Pistoja., was manned by an emergency staff and resumed its journey, but was subsequently ambushed, armed men firing on the locomotive. The--passengers returned the fire and the assailants were driven off.
