POSITION AT LOCAL MARKET LATEST SUPPLIES MEET BEAD'S SALES. ■ All varieties of fruit are fairly plentiful at the local markets this week, with the exception of stone fruit, which is nowdiminishing in supply with the advance of the season. A small shipment of Island fruit, ex Tahiti, met a fairly brisk market yesterday. Apples, good, have increased in value, with moderate supplies only coming forward. Few American oranges have been on the market this week, and consequently Sydney-grown have found wider popularity at sound values. Barotongan bananas have become clteaper with the arrival of the Island boat. Cherry plums are now finished for the season, and good supplies of diamond plums have taken their place and demand , sound values. The season has also finished for supplies of black currants, and late supplies were eagerly purchased at excellent prices. Tomatoes havo become moro plentiful the last few days, with moderate values ruling. Apricots ' have undergone a slight increase in price within the last few days ■by reason of the superior quality of recent supplies. Strawberries have left the market for the season. Yesterday’s quotations were:— FRUIT. choice dessert favourites 15s case, prime 12s, others 10s; cookers, choice 5a to 6e; oranges (Sydney), 355; bananas, 10s; plums (Diamond), Ss to 9s, Burbanks 8s to lie; peaches, lie to 13s; tomatoes (green) 9s, coloured 12s to 14s; apricots (Roxburgh), 10s to 11s half-case; walnuts, Is 2d lb; cocoanuts, 18s to 20s sack. POTATOES AND ONIONS. The market for potatoes is glutted at present, and the demand is very weak, even for best quality potatoes. Huttgrown maintain popularity as 4he better class. Though there is a scarcity of Melbourne onions on the market, Auckland supplies have met with.only a moderate demand, though prices are little lower than last week’s quotations. Prioea are: —Potatoes (Hutt-grown) jzj to .£.9, others to onions, Auckland, JEIO ton. OTHER VEGETABLES. The market remains firm for all classes of green vegetables, and supplies continue to face a ready market. Cabbages have slightly receded in value in consequence of increase in supply. Cauliflowers also are more plentiful and prices have altered accordingly. Cucumbers have become very cheap, in' direct contrast to last week’s prices, and spring onions have undergone a similar change. Supplies of scarlet runners are now coming forward in larger quantity. The market tor green peas is much the same as last weak, and offerings are eagerly bought up. Beetroot values have considerably decreased, and are now very cheap. Broad beans have increased in value, and are eagerly purchased. Latest quotation' ; are—Cabbages, choice 15s- to -17 s, prime 18e to 14s, others 10s; cauliflowers, choice 10s case, prime Bs, others ss; parsnips, 7s i doz bundles; encumbers, 4e to 6s; scarlet i runners, 3Jd lb; broad beans. 6s to 8s - n»rt sack; green peas, choice 2s fid peck others 2s peck; lettuce, 4s to 6s; turnips i 2s 6d sack; swedes. 8s sack; beetroot,s3s fid sack; spring onions, 4d to fid bunch. 1 rhubarb, 4s doz. POULTHY. The poultry market is much the same 1 as last week, a slight increase onlv haring been recorded in values.
