WOOL SALES

SIM ALL OFFERING IN AUCKLAND. : The first wool sale in Auckland since the requnsifckxa will take place on February 3rd,, when a total of 8000 bales wifi "be offered. From iaquiiies made it was shown that the- number of .bales catalogued ’is small compared with the number uj.uoßy brought forward for the January safes, held in pre-war days. Up to 1914 as many as 30,000 bales were disposed of at the January sale, and during the requisition an equal number were handled at this period of the year. The falling off is attributed to the farmers holding back their wool owing to. the very serious drop in prices. The holding of the sales in January in the past resulted in a large percentage of the wool: being fairly clean and light in condition, whereas most of the wool offering for next month’s sale is lather mixed. Varying from early shorn light condition wool .to heavy 'honk country drips, which in same cases carry a fair quantity of seed. The opinion of Auckland experts, baaed on reports of southern sales, is that growers will have to accept a considerable reduction in prices. Fraotfeallv- all the wool grown in the province is what is known as strong wool, and unfortunately this doss has suffered most by the decline in prices.
