RESOLUTION BY SOUTHERN CLERGY. peb resss *Rsoer*ttov DUNEDIN, January 28". The following resolution wras passed by the Roman Catholic Bishop and Clergy of the Dioceses, assembled in Dunedin yesterday :—-“Whereas the Hierarchy of Ireland hlave protested that the policy of frighUfulnees under which oiviiians are ilitreaited, flogged and murdered; Shops, creameries and homes- raided and looted, and young women . torn half-dressed from their hornets in. the middle of the night, has been connived at, encouraged and apparently organised by the English Government ; and whereas not only the friend* of Ireland all over the world, fcut also Anglican, hjehops, Tory lords, English lawyers, statesmen and pressmen have, in the name of Christianity, condemned this regime of terror in Ireland, we feel called upon to reiterate the declaration of the Irish bishops that not by inhuman aggression will the Irish question be settled, but by a recognition of the indefeasible right of Ireland, as cf evei-v other nation, to choose the form of Government under which its people are to live.”
