FURTHER DECLINE IN' PRICES. TALLOW ALSO DOWN. There was a comparatively poor attendance of buyers at the skins and hides sale which was held yesterday, and for most lines the bidding was spiritless. Murray. Roberta and Company and Levin and Company presented more comprehensive catalogues than the other selling firms, an! am..n c st a the lots offered were a Saif proportion d super quality skins and hides. One of the mam reason ß for the decline in prices is attributed to the fact that the sales in Australia hare been deferred, and this fact alone hats had the effect of making buyers careful, as lots purchased in New Zealand are forwarded to Australia for re-sale. The difficulty of securing shinping space has a iso had au effect upon tnc market. In respect to the prices obtained, the hides sent in by country butchers showed a decline. Cow hides receded from Id to Id, and ox from fd to 2d compared with the previous'sale. Super freezing hides declined from Id to 2d, and calf skins from Jd to Id, while the price obtained for yearlings was on a par with last sales. Dry skins were (d cheaper, re ted skins brought last sale’s values, and cut and slippy hides were prao tically unsaleable. TALLOW. Tallow showed an all round drop of approximately JE3 per ton. The price oV t-ained for casks was 24?. and tins brought from 5s to 20s per ewt. The firms operating at yesterday's sale were —Messrs Murray. Roberts and Company, Levin and Company.
