JOHNSONVILLE AND CITY
AMALGAMATION QUESTION DEFERRED. - The finance committee recommended to the City Council last night that no action be taken at present in regard to the proposed amalgamation of the JohnaonviUe town district with the city. The Mayor (Mr J. P Luke) expiree, sed regret that the amalgamation of Johnsonville with the city should not have taken place during his term of office during which Onslow, Karori and Miramar had come in. He had hoped to see the confines of the city extended to the Ngahauranga Gorge. The committee had gone into the matter and had recommended that the matter be deferred till the next financial year. JohnaonviUe, he pointed out, did not offer the inducement for amalgamation that had been offered by Karori, Miramar and Onslow.
