PETONE LEAGUE CLUB

ENJOYABLE SMOKE CONCERT. " A highly enjoyable and distinctly successful snibke- concert , was held: in the Palace Theatre," Petone,-to celebrate the winning of the senior and junior championships by the Potone Rugby League Club. There was a large attendance of supporters- and friends. Mr W. Parkin6on occupied • the chair in the absence of Mr G. H. Scales (president). ThOj chairman,and Mr Tovey referred to <he double win, and attributed their sue- '■ cess to strict attention to training. Mr Evans (in replying to the toast of "The Wellington League") mentioned tha fact, that League football had increased 100 per cent, during the eeason, and with more; grounds would go still,further next sea-' son. Dpring the evening presentations were made to Mr Langndge (secretary) of a bag in recognition of his services; a' medal ■ for the most improved player to Mr J. Kruse, and medals to Tetley (back) and Scott (forward), the best junior players. The toast-list was as follows:—"The King," "The Petone Club": (Mr Tovey, responded to by Mr Lang-' ridge), "Wellington Rugby League" (Mr Kruse, responded to bv Mr Evans). "Our Opponents" (Mr B. Childs), "Kindred Clubs" (Mr Kyle, 'responded to by Mr J. .Murphy), "The Ladies". (Mr Nicholls, responded to by Mr Zimmerman), and "The Press." Musical items were contributed by Messrs Blandford,-Viddler, Garner, Parkinson, "Doc" Nicholls, Zimmerman, and Corson.
