MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough ,Council was held last evening, when there were present: The Mavor (Mr B. P. R-ishworth), Councillors A. J. Hobbs, A. J. West, W. B Bardy, A. Macnskill. W. Meldrum. W. I T. Cotton, W. Knight, E. J. Guinness, and J. Mitchell. . , , .. A memorandum was received from the Department of Labour ndvismg that the magistrate had altere-l the capital value of Dwan Bros.' cottages, from .£3BO to .£lB7 10s eaoh, and thanking the council for its assistance.—Received. Wellington, .'wrfctqj advifling that tho City Council had decided that it would be bettor for the question of contribution towards maintenance of Toads in tho southern portion oftho borough and Wainui hill to stand over until the amount of traffic and damage caused had been ascertained.£t The e town olerk, Dunedin, submitted suggestions and recommendations for tho creation of a Government Loans Board to anange for th* flotation of all loan, required bv local authorities, etc. wm decided to support the proposal. Proposals relative to beautifying the surroundings of .the Hutt railway station were submitted by tho General Manager. New Zonland Railways. It was decided to send a letter thanking tho writer, and a committee, consisting of tho Mayor, Councillor Hardy and the borough engineer wn« eel up te go into the matter of working out plots for shrubs in tho vicinity of the station. Reports of the engineer, No. 1 committeo, inspector, rnngor and librarian wore- received and adopted.
