I ANNUAL meeting. ITie annual meeting of the natural history and field club section of the Wellington Philosophical Society was held last evening; v tfco chaifihan, Professor H.. B. Kirk, presiding over a fair attendance of, members.' ■ The «nnnal report, which was adopted, stated that 29 members had been recruited. Mr G. V. Hudson was elected,chairman .for. the ensuing year, Professor Kirk and Mr J. A. Thomson vice-chairmen, and Mr H. Hamilton, secretary; Mr D. Miller wan appointed to fill a vacancy on the committee. Mr Millar read an interesting paper, illustrated by lantern slides, upon "Hover Flies and their Economic Importance." In the, course of his remarks, Mr Millar stated that it was computed that insect*'! formed 80 per cent, of the animal kingdom.; About 5 per cent, were destructive "toyman's products. The lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
