A REQUEST REFUSED
STAMP DUTIES OFFICE FOR HAMILTON.
An application was recently made by the Hamilton Law Society for the establishment of a Stamp Duties Office at Hamilton. A reply has now been received from the Prime Minister that while he recognises that the growing importance of Hamilton warrants consideration to the request, he regrets that it is a physical impossibility to comply with it owing to the shortage of competent officers. The department .cannot, he points out, spare a single competent officer from any of the district offices in the Dominion. The Public Service Commissioner was, however, endeavouring to supply as many cadets as were required for the necessary training, and the writer hoped in tile near future to bo in a position to again take into* serious consideration the requests of .the Hamilton Law Society.
