ENGINE-DRIVERS' PAY
INCREASED RATES GRANTED. By decision of the Court of Arbitration engine-drivers employed in the Wellington Industrial District are tobe paid increased rates of wages as from May Ist last. The amendment to tho existing award was filed at the Supreme Court yesterday. It reads: — "The following shall be tho minimum rates of wages to bo paid to en-gine-drivers who are in charge of any boiler within the ■ meaning of the 'lnspection of Machinery Act,, 1908,' and its amendments: Where the work that the engine-driver is employed to- do requires that he shall hold a first-class certificate as a stationary driver, 14s 2d'per day; holder of second-class certicate, 13s 2d ; traction and loco, certificate, 14s 2d; firemen, 12s 8d; greasers, 12s Bd. The foregoing rates are subject to a bonus of Is per day. Youths employed as firemen' shall bo paid the following rates: 18 years and under 19 years &id per hour; 19-20, Hid. Tho rates are subject to a bonus of Id per hour."
