THE ZIONISTS

The oall of the Zionists to Pa-lestino is one of the most powerful over heard by human nature. The country was great when it- was the home of a great race, to which the civilised world is vastly indebted. For centuries it has lain under the hoof of tho despoiler, a disgrace to its splendid memories. At last, in our time, and by the help of soldiers of the very flower of our own people, the land i» sot free from that hideous obsession. It has been placed under the care of Great Britain, and it is, therefore, guaranteed peace and good government. . Naturally, members of the race that once possessed that land are anxious to regain, a footing there amongst these splendid memories. The anxiety is spurred by the horrible treatment to which they are systematically subjected in the countries of their adoption. The world is helping them, and the appeal has reached here, [t was well presented on Sunday night, and well supported, that is, by generosity and Justice combined. The famous old land will be self-governed some day, and well governed, with-as-sured peace and prosperity to the Zionists after their long exile. Who will be the governors;* who can say? But, whoever they may be, Zionists will be among them, living happily in the land flowing, thanks to their efforts, with milk and honey, as it flowed in the' far-off century when their ancestors entered it as tho Promised Land. Moreover, the land will be again, as itwas once, the centre of the prosperous coast regions, and tho ally of a Great Power established in tho. cradle of the human race. This is the groat work made possible by the Great War, and now ready for the League of Nations to undertake. The first part of that work is the establishment of Zionists in the country of their forefathers—safe from the hands of the oppressor. Our part in that is to subscribe. The rest is for others. —and of these it can be safely said that thoy are to be trusted.
