The New Zealand Loan and Meraintile Agency Co., Ltd., report;—At Palmerston North heifer fair on Thursday we had - a fair entry of cattle. The heifers were of inferior quality and were hard to quit. We quote: Medium heifers 5213 ss, 2-year late calving heifers 508; ■ £S 10a to 5210, springing cows .210, ,214 10s to .£lB 10s, heifers and calves _ .28, empty cows A 3 to JSS 15s, empty heifers 53 13s -6d, bulls £i 17s 6d. MINING IN NEW ZEALAND. DECREASE IN PRODUCTION. . The annual report of the Mines. Department states that there has been a ' decrease in the production of metals during the year. The value of mineral ex- 1 pouts,' however, shows an increase of; nearly 522,000,000, this being largely due to the 'faot that 157.6230 z of gold entered for export in 1918 was not exported until 1919. The total value exported for 1818 was 533,947,009, and for 1818, •£4,424089. The value of bullion obtained from quartz mines in 1919 amounted to .£573,622. obtained from treating .286,057 tons.
