BOWLING
EASTBOURNE' CLUB. Tho thirteenth annual meeting of the above club'was held in the Eastbourne Borough Council rooms last week. Mr 3. W. Shorty (retiring president!- was 'in the chair. After slight discussion, the annual report and balance-sheet was adopted, and votes of thanks were accorded outgoing officials foi the onerous' duties performed by them since taking office; the services of Mr Abrahams, as greenkeeper, being especially mentioned. _ The loss sustained to tho club in the recent death of Mr Charles Russell who, since the club’s ' inception, had proved a tower of strength to it in. every way, was the subject of marked respect. It was decided to take part in pennant fixtures and the club proposes entering senior and junior teams. Ip view of on already new membership of fourteen tho prospects of a successful year wore considered assured, the opening of the season—probably on tho first Saturday in October —is to take the form of a social _ afternoon gathering, in which tho wives and friends of members will take part, as formerly. _ The following officers were elected to control the club’s affairs for tho ensuing year: President, Mr P. Lovi; vice-president, Mr J. D ; Avery; secretary, Mr N. J. Bennington; treasurer ' Mr F. Stewart j hon. auditor, Mr H. Downes; committee, Messrs F. Chittey, C MoKcekan, A. Munro, W. Ridler. and C. Ross; delegate , to centre, Mr N. J. Bennington. Mr Shortt, who has held office as presiden tfor the past three years, anticipated a, pleasant year of office for Mr Levi, the new president, those associated with him being .determined to advance the club’s social and financial status in every, way.
