I About 150 people -were present ;a« the Paramount Theatre last evening when an address was given by Mr .T. Brindle, Labour candidate, for the City Council bv-clection'to be held on the 17th inat. 'Mr Dyson, secretary;ot the Kcntpavers’ Association, presided. Mr Brindle" announced that the Weilinoton Labour Representation Committee had "done him the honour of selecting*' him as its .candidate,, and he would faithfully support the policy of the Labour party. Ho mentioned that Labour throughout .Great Britain had made wonderful progress in securing seats upon municipal bodies, t Ho urged that* the city should have ™ own farms to prevent exorbitant prices being paid to farmers for milk. Chapman spoke in favour of = the candidate and mentioned that the four Labour councillors had _ adequately looked after the interests ,of the 130 U employees of the city, and had supported the housing scheme and other progressive measures.
