RUNNING SAMOA
■ ON ENTIRELY WRONG LINES. After the Wellington Chamber 01. Commerce had distended to the Samoan delegates, as to the disabilities ex. isting in Samoa, the entrance of the Government departments into trade avenues, which wag prejudicially affecting many business institutions, while Australia was capturing a trade, meant for Now Zealand. The chairman (Sir A. F. Roberts) expressed- the opinion that the New, Zealand Government was running,Samoa on an entirely wrong, principle. The chairman moved that the endorse the motion passed by, the! Auckland Chamber of Commerce in favour of the unofficial members of the, Samoan Legislature being elected by, the white residents. ,
Mr Stuart Wilson seconded the mo-( tion, and said Air Massey’s attention should be drawn to the fact that he had not been informed that the trade of the Island was going to Australia in., stead of to New Zealand. , . The motion was carried unanimous.
ly. Before the meeting concluded, one of tho delegates remarked that at the present time between 30 and 40 business houses, from Australia _ were represented in Samoa, as against three from New Zealand.
