When steaming 'between Lyttelton and Dunedin last week, the Shaw, Savili and Albion liner Waimana discharged about 285 tons of fresh water from her tanks in order to lighten the vessel sufficiently to enable her to negotiate the Victoria channel and berth at Dunedin to discharge her local cargo' from London. This action by the company's marine superintendent at Lyttelton was greatly appreciated by the consignees, who were saved the expense of 7s per ton railage had the Waimana been compelled to cischarge at Port Chalmers. The water which was .pumped from the ship's tanks was taken on board at Suva.
