OLYMPIC CLUB. . WILSON MEMORIAL .CUP. ■ On Saturdav the members of the above club assembled at Lyall Bay to contest the first.race -for the •>, "Wilson Memorial Cup/V which was,donated by Mr H. G. (Gunny) Wilson in. honour of his younger brother,..who was killed in the late vrar aind- who was also an old and esteemed, member of this club. The tup is a valuable one. and' it, is to be competed for annually war a bourse of three miles;, the winner to hold, same for 12 months. Tho weather was rather unfavourable for ' this class of sport. At Lyall ■ Bay. on' Saturday, nev-rtheless, there was' a fair muster. The course was ably, laid by Messrs E." A. Shaw aud W. Wilkinson. Fourteen runners lined up in' front of the starter. (Mr W. DoualdsonX' \ The limit man, A. Workman, with 21 minutes start.from tho eoratch man, maintained his lead for about hall the distance,'- when : he was overhauled by J. Beaglehoio.' ." The positions- of the leaders were unaltered at the, Sir'sh, J. Beaglehole winning by about, ten yardb from A. Workman, with J. Bell, close up third; The fastest tirne was recorded, by W. Scatchard, who ran into sijeth place. - Messrs LY A. • Shaw, W. Wilkinson and 11. Cook acted as course stewards; Mr."D. ; J. Alabaster, timekeeper; Mr; \V. Donaldson, starter and recording steward; Mr C. Rowberry, reoordinjr ■ steward; '■•-•■ After the rao?, at. the invitation of Mr H. Q. Wilscua, the members and their. , lady friends partook' of afternoon tea. [Mr Donaldson 'thanked .the host and donor and also congratulated the winner. Mr D. J. Alabaster, briefly replied on behalf of Mr Wilson; who was unavoidably abseat through illness. Next Saturday, will be -held the combined run at Lower Hutt. '• ' BROOKLYN CLUB. Considerable interest was taken in Saturday's race (the.; ''Ladies' Bracelet/') over a 2i miles steeplechase course, tuito a' number of. Indies being present, ixteen. runners start* d. being 6ent off at their respective times by Messrs Smelli© and L. Todd. The first lap saw. Grigg. in the lead, the rest of the field ' strong out, and going round the second time Miitchell and Greig went to the front, while Uobinsoia and Dentice Were coming through fast. Here Bell (scratch) retired ' through ' shoe trouble. The last-lap was very fast, Robinson goinj; up to second place, with Dontice next, set-out after Mitchell, who, however, ran gamoly and breasted tho tape a wianer by twenty yards from Robinson. who .was two yards ahead of D-snbice, with Biirk. a- vard further away.
