OUTCLASSED BY WARIRAEAPA JfORWADS. A WILLING ENCOUNTER. Special to the "Times." MASTERTON, July 2i. Tho Wairarapa and liawko's Bay representatives met at Carterton this afternoon in fine weather. The game was a good one to watch. In the first spelkHawkc's Bay had tho better of the play, thanks to the good work of their backs and the determined efforts of their forward*. The. .first score of the match went to Wairarapa, Murray kicking a penalty goal. ' shortly afterwards Hawke's Bay notched a try through ihe agency cf Barclay, whoi ran through the whole of the Wairarapa team and completely beat the opposition by trie&y play. Yates conve/ted; Hawke's Bay 5, Wairarapa 3. There was no further score in the Spoilin the second half the Wairarapa forwards asserted themselves almost from the jump, and the great play of Desmond, Dixon, Bacon, and Murray seemed to disorganise the visitors. In the spell Tohill .scored two tries for Wairarapa, and C. Irvine kicked, a goal from a mark. Hawke's bay tailed to seoro. The final score was: Wairarapa 12 Hawke's Bay 5
The Hawke's Bay backs were unable to get going through the good work of the Wairarapa forwards, who overwhelmed them.
' Of the Wairarapa hacks Carson. Tohill, and Juno were the pick, but Kennedy was poor. Of tho forwards Desmond, Dixon (who was injured in the second 6pell and retired), Bacon, and Murray were tho best of the Hawke's Bay backs.
