BEHIND THE SCENES
WHAT A MISHAP REVEALED. The serenity of a recent evening's •Upera House, performance at Auckland (says an exchange) was broken through the miscalculation of a tightrope artist who was cutting hyperbolas in the air. •Her male companion was underneath ready to catch her jf she failed to arrive back on the wire safoly, but when she did miss and fell, 6he carried him with her against the back, drop scene which, fell about them in a heap. Tho back, of the stage was revealed with about .twenty people in various positions and conditions of dress. Ladies in kimonos and ladies without kimonos, gentlemen ' engaged in busy conversation with scene shifters enjoying a rest, and in fact all the things vou would expect to see behind a vaudeville stage. The audience appreciated the. accident more than the entertainment and laughed heartily. But the scenery man lowered another drop and the panorama of startled loungers was hidden from view.
