ANZAC DAY
NATIONAL CLOSE HOLIDAY. Permission is to bo given Mr G. Mitchell. M.P.j to introduce an Anzao Day Bill into tho House, of Representatives at an early date. It is expected, in view of the general and oftexpressed desire of the Returned Soldiers' Association for' tho setting apart of Anzac Day as a day of commemoration of comrades who fell in tho war, that the Government will provide all facilities for the passing of tho measure. It is not likely that any opposition will bo offered in tho House. The bill will provide that "April 25th in every year, being tho anniversary of tho landing of tho Now Zenland Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli, shall hereafter be declared a national close holiday within the Dominion of New Zealand, in order to commemorate tho heroism of tho New Zealand troops throughout tho war, and to perpetuato the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for tho Empire."
