INCREASED CHARGES

POST AND TELEGRAPHS rWOPENNY LETTERS AND SHILLING TELEGRAMS. The Postmaster-General announces that the- following alterations of postage and telegraph charges will come into force on August Ist: LETTERS AND PARCELS. Letters and letter-cards: —Inland, increased from ljd for 4oz to 2d for 2oz. Australia, United Kingdom, United States, and certain other countries, from l}d to 2d. Postcards: —Inland, from Id to lja. Late fee, from Id to 2d. . Packets (comprising commercial papors, books, and printed papers, pattern and sample packets and unrecistered magazines): —Inland, trom la for first 2oz and >}d for each additional 2oz to lid for each 4oz up to lib. Registered magazines:—lnland. Australia, Fiii. and certain islands in tho Pacific, new - rates, 2d for each copy if not exceeding Boz, and 2d for each additional Soz or fraction thereof. Newspapers: —Inland, from id to Id. Registration fee, from 2d to 3d. Inland parcels, from 4Jd to 6d for first pound. Fee for insurance of parcels:—lnland, 2d to 3d for up to £2. Private lotter-boxes: —Rental, from. £1 to £1 10s per annum. Private mail bags:—Rental, from £2 to £2 10s per annum. MONEY-ORDERS.

The new*rates are:—By post for money-orders payable in New Zealand, Id for each £l, with minimum of 6d. Payable beyond New Zealand, except in "Australia, United States of America or Canada. 6d for each £l. Payable in United States of America and Canada, od for each 2s. By telegraph:—Payable in New Zealand, same as In- post, plus a telegraph fee of Is 6cl if order sent by ordinary telegram, or 3s if sent bj urgent telegram. Payable in United Singdoin, same as by post, plus cabling fee. Domestic orders:—Each order 9d, including delivery fee. Postal notes: —New commission rates, up to 2s Gd, Id; 3s to 15s, 2d.; 20s. 3d. TELEGRAMS. Telegrams:—lnland, new rates, week day 3 (other than public holidays), Is for first 12 words and Id for each additional word, for ordinary telegrams; double these rates for urgent telegrams. Sundays and public holidays, double the rates for week days. . Registration of code addresses: —Fee increased from 10s to £1 per annum. The amendment of the charges for telephone bureau communications and lor telephone exchange connections frill be announced later.
