CASUALTIES
A SEAMAN DROWNED. GALLANT ATTEMPT AT RESCUE FAILS. George Dumincl, a seaman on the steamer Raranga, fell into the Auck. land Harbour on Saturday night, and was drowned, despite a bravo attempt at rescue by James Hurley, a fireman on the same steamer (says a Press Association message). Hurley dived after Uuminel. ,He found him under water and tried to pull him ashore. A bystander threw a lifebuoy, and in trying to catch it Hurley, through numbed fingers, lost his grip of Duminel, who sank. Hurley dived again, bub was unsuccessful, and then swam ashore exhausted. LABOURER FOUND DEAD. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch states that John McGregor, labourer, was found dead yest M- - morning in his room at a board-ing-house in the city. BULLET WOUND IN FOREHEAD. John Sargison Robinson, 50 years of age, a single man, residing with his father at Waitepeka, was found dead at 1) o’clock this morning in his bedroom, says a Press Association telegram from Dunedin. The body was lying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound in the forehead and a discharged .22 rifle by his wide.
