MAGISTRATE'S COURT

VARIOUS OFFENDERS DEALT WITH. There was a very small number of offenders before Mr „E. Pase, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. Several first offenders were disposed of according to scale. John Colin McKay, a very old and much-bewhiskered man of 74, was charged with having insufficient means of support. It was stated that .ha had been found roaming the streets. Accused, an ex-inmate of tho Old Men's Home, was remanded for a week. Papa Nikora. a Maori, appeared to answer a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, and with playing hazards on the' tug wharf. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was represented by Mr H. F. O'Leary. Tho man was remanded until Friday, bail being fixed at £lO. A remand was granted Joseph Mendez on a charge of assaulting John JSicoll. The case will be proceeded with to-day. For alleged theft of s, ■ Pomeranian: dog, Victor Bass, who appeared in court carrying the diminutive animalj was remanded until Friday. NON-ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL. Mr E. Page. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court oh Saturday, dealt with the following cases for non-attendance school: — Albert Bennet was fined 2s and costs for his son's absence from school. It was stated that the lad (13 years of age) had been absent on 36 occasions. Margaret Emerson "was fined 5s and costs for the non-appearance at school of her child; aged 11, and only in .standard 2.•• - . For a similar offence John McCor. mick (no appearance) was fined 10s and costs.
