HOCKEY MATCHES

SATURDAY’S GAMES INTERESTING COMPETITIONS IN THIRD ROUND. The third round of the Wellihgton Hockey Association’s were continued at Karori Park on Saturday in favourabla weather. Owing to the recent rains the grounds proved tairly slow, but despite this fact,, some good games were witnessed by a small number of spectators. MEN’S SENIOR GAMES. HUIA v. CENTRAL. These two teams met on the No. 1 ground, and a good gam© resulted, -u-Uia having much the better of the game all through. Prom the initial ' ‘bully ’ Huia set up an attack, and reached the circle, where Keyes made a good attempt at goal. Central were again on the defensive, when the Huia forwards rushed down the field, Keyes taking the ball from tho "twenty-five,” and sent in a hot shot, which baffled the Central custodian. Huia again went goal-hunt-ing, but their rushes were temporarily nullified by Central. Central then set. tied for a short time in Huia’s quarter, where only poor shooting by the Central forwards prevented a score. Play was in mid-field when the whistle sounded for half-time. Central now livened up and made two unsuccessful attempts to equalise, but the Huia backs were altogether too safe. Huia again broke away, the Central goal-keeper saving well on two occasions. Poor work by the Central backs, however, let Littlejohn through, and he added another goal. From this on play was very exciting, and not too clean on the part of Central. There was no further score, the game ending in favour of Huia by two goals to,nil. Jeronson played an exceedingly fine, game for Huia, and assisted his team by feeding both wings when he got the hall, an example several of the Central players should strive to cultivate.
