N.S.W; , EMPLOYERS RESOLUTE. WILL RESIST THE ATTEMPTED REDUCTION. Employers embraced in tho Employers’ Federation intend to resist to tho utmost any attempt on the part of individual sections of employees to bring about a shorter working week (says tho “Sydney Morning Herald”). The president of the association, Mr W. Brooks, said that at a meeting held to consider tho matter the members decided that it was a national question, which must bo decided, not by sections of cither employers or employees, but by tho recognised legislative tribunal. Tho opinion was strongly held by the employers, said Mr Brooks, that they could not accept the responsibility of granting concessions in any individual sections. A strong committee was (brined representing tho Employers’ Federation, and tho Chambers of Commerce and Manufacturers, and, whilst 1 they have no feeling of antagonism towards any of tho unions which are claiming a shorter working week, they will resist all sectional attempts on the linos indicated. Tho committee will shortly issue for public information a statement setting forth tho economic effects of any reduction in working hours, and tho consequent decrease In production.
