A CLOSE CONTEST ANTICIPATED

Mr John Edie, who stood in the Libeial interest against Sir James Allen at the last election, is again contesting the Bruce seat against Mr James Bcgg, the lleforra candidate. in bis addrea* at Alilburu last night Mr Edio stressed tho necessity of a strong Opposition in view of Mr Massey’s lajM| majority. He criticised tho CVMRiission sot up *o deal with the cost of living for not having brought down something definite to combat tho high cost. Tho Massey Government had not don© much, 4 anything, in this direction, and it was high time something was done. He favoured a State steamer service, was n gainst indentured labour, and claimed that the l prices to bo paid farmers (or their wheat was not too high so far os Tuapeka was concerned. Too speaker was accorded a vote of thanks. Dio election takes plaoe next Wedncgftty, and tho contest is likely to be a close one
