BABIES NOT WANTED
A CHRISTCHURCH EXPERIENCE. The difficulties of travellers in securing accommodation at the present time are sufficiently well known (says the-‘‘Otago Daily Times”), but when they are “encumbered’’ :by : the addition of a, young child : tlieir pligli/t becomes even less enviable. A'letter re-, ceivod in Dunedin the other day from a woman who left for Christchurch last week, accompanied by her husband and child, in the course of which she says: "Wo havei had rather a strenuous time since coming here 1 ! Everywhere wo went, we were refused accomodation as soon as the people knew wc had a baby, and we were _ told that no one was wanted with babies in this town* Wc have managed to obtain rooms with the use of the,kitchen for about four months, but goodness knows what we are going to do at the end of that time.” When it is added that- the writer's husband is a wellpaid Government servant, the difficulties of people in loss remunerative positions are still further emphasised, and if this sort of thing is to be su-per-imposed on the other problems of matrimonial economy, the outlook for an improvement of the birth-rate in the near future ig not at-all promising. ;
